Right now at both Green Mountain and Dillon, ice s Right now at both Green Mountain and Dillon, ice surface conditions are ideal and we have thick solid ice throughout both reservoirs. Day time temps have trended upwards and it seems we made through the sub zero cold spell!
Today’s trips at both reservoirs produced decent numbers. The bite for lake trout was never on fire but was steady and Tom and Rana took home a nice mess of fish to stock their freezer. We also spent some time fishing for brown trout and Tom got a pretty good one!
Meanwhile over at Dillon our guide Ken’s customers got into fast action on the Kokanee salmon and pulled up some beautiful Arctic Char!
The ice conditions at Green Mountian are currentl The ice conditions at Green Mountian are currently excellent with a foot or more of hard ice throughout the lake. It made for a great afternoon to check things out for this weekends trips and take the huskies for a run!
Congratulations to our guide Alec on this specimen Congratulations to our guide Alec on this specimen of a lake trout.
The Eagle Claw Fishing 42” Cryo heavy action was the ice rod of choice to handle the battle with this lean and mean hard fighter!
Congratulations to Jillian on our first Arctic Cha Congratulations to Jillian on our first Arctic Char catch of the season.

After closing out the 2024 open water season with After closing out the 2024 open water season with some epic trips, we’ve switched gears and are preparing for a new season of ice fishing! First stop will be at Lake Dillons Snake River Inlet for the Kokanee Salmon run.
Every year, Colorado’s ice fishing angers look forward to this first ice opportunity. The outlook is good this year with good water levels, making for plenty of space when the inlet freezes up here soon! We are hoping to be able to start our trips at least by around the 20th. Stay tuned for updates on when the inlet develops fishable ice!

On a quick trip on Monday to run some gas out of t On a quick trip on Monday to run some gas out of the boat before winterizing it, the incredible, magnificent, and spectacular Lake Dillon blessed me with the experience of reeling in one of her biggest Arctic Char.
I am very happy to have caught this apex fish and release it back into the lake that has always given me so much. I love this lake, and I am constantly thankful for what it provides me.
After sharing the photo, I figured people might ask, was it a record? How long? How much did it weigh? Well I don’t have the answers.
All I know, is that fish is back in there alive and well, and maybe someone else will get to experience a part of the love Lake Dillon has always given to me.
I am forever grateful to be able to share my love for the lake and show others what she has to offer.
We had an incredible 2024 open water season and ou We had an incredible 2024 open water season and our last trip on Sunday was a great way to close it out! We went out with Fishing With Bernie guide Jake, and Jessica. They caught 8 or 9 Arctic Char, a whole mess of Kokanee Salmon, and then Jessica topped that off with a couple rianbow trout and a brown trout. And that gave her a Lake Dillon grand slam! Not only did she get the grand slam, she knocked three species off her list!
And there was something special thing about this trip. Arctic Char were stocked into Lake Dillon from 2007 through 2014 with funds that were donated to the CPW in honor and memory of Jake’s best friend Matt Daniels.
A huge thank you to the Daniels family for this amazing gift to the fishery that will keep on giving forever to the anglers of Lake Dillon!
A sneak peak at the most impressive Arctic Char I’ve seen come out of Lake Dillon. Stay tuned for more on this incredible fish!!

The week before last, Rachel and I took a five day trip to Lake Powell one of our guide boats, it’s a 22’ G3 Boats SunCatcher PontoonsV322F powered up with a 225hp Yamaha engine.
This boat was able to haul our fishing and camping gear, plus 40 gallons of extra gas and give us plenty of space to fish. We took a 65 mile run from Bullfrog marina and found ourselves in a fishing paradise!
We had a blast caching Striped Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Channel Catfish and a few Crappie and Bluegill.
All we needed for lures was the Eagle Claw Fishing teardrop jig heads on a 4”fluke. The combo of the realism of the eyeball, and the Pro-V hook design were deadly! On the channel cats we used the red octopus hooks and they didn’t miss.! The weather was perfect and we couldn’t have asked for a better chance to get away from fishing to fish!!
It was a lot of fun this morning to take Greg and It was a lot of fun this morning to take Greg and Paul from Northland Fishing Tackle out on Lake Dillon to test out the Tungston Slim Spoon and the Tungston Buck Shot jigging spoons. Up until now, tungsten jigs have been pretty specific to ice fishing where fishing very small baits usually necessary. Today the test was to see how well the smaller baits were able to perform in deeper open water. We were able to send down jigs that are the size of a normal 1/16 ounce jig but weighed 1/4 and 3/8 ounce. it’s important to have a lure that gets down to the bottom fast when you get on top of the school, because the schools are usually moving. So when you get on them, you need the lures to get down fast. And often times, downsizing is a key to getting more bites. But when you’re fishing 80 feet deep and deeper, which is where we got the Kokanee today, downsizing usually is not an option because you need a heavy spoon to get down quickly and handle, dragging down all the line. Today these lures made it possible to do what a much larger jig does, and they were able to catch the deep salmon one right after the other! Take a look at the photo of the lures for size reference. Pictured is an 1/8 non-tungsten spoon on the top compared to the quarter ounce Northland tungsten jigging spoons. Less than Half the size and twice the weight!
